Where does the line wait? A bench by the door, a long seat along the window, or a lounge corner at the back turns dead floor into seats. These 13 benches and lounge pieces list their sizes, and eight of them offer upholstery options.

Put the bench where people wait

A bench by the entrance gives the line somewhere to sit and the counter one less crowd to manage. Waiting benches is the starting page, with five listings. Seat height is standard on nine of the 12 pieces. A bench needs no table, but it does need an eye on the clock: once the line reaches it at 8:15 AM, you want that line moving, not settling in.

Matching walls? One listing sells two wall benches as a set. Mark the length on the floor with tape before you order. Then look at the aisle in front of it: a service route wants about 36 inches, and a bench that eats into it will be the first thing a tray bumps at 8 AM.

Backs and upholstery

Plain backs show up on three pieces and retro backs on two. Bead board, six-channel, and button-tufted backs appear once each. Eight pieces list upholstery options, so request a swatch at samples before you commit. Color lists change over time, and a long bench is too big a thing to match by eye.

Three pieces have arms. Arms add width at the ends, which is worth a look if the bench sits between two doors.

Wood, metal, and resin

You'll find wood, metal, and resin here. The wood benches vary by seat and back: a padded seat with a wood back, a wood seat and back, or a bead board back. Three pieces have resin frames. Three are listed for patio use and three for indoor use, so read the line on the one you want before it goes near the sidewalk. A piece listed as resin patio furniture measures 55 inches wide, 31 inches deep, and 31 inches high, which makes it a corner piece, not a wall piece.

Price and placement

Singles range from $162 to $1,567. Seating along a wall can also come from booths, and booths are exempt from the eight-piece order minimum.

Draw the door, the counter, and the bench in cafe plans, then walk the route with a tray in your head. If the tray clears, the bench stays.
